Utah High School Students Cheer, Laugh As Classmate Rips Down LGBTQ Pride Flag

A student at a Utah high school was filmed ripping down a pride flag representing the LGBTQ community Tuesday that had been hanging on the second floor above the commons.

Ridgeline High School students could be heard clapping and cheering as the flag was cut down and eventually fell to the ground, prompting bursts of laughter.

Video of the incident, which has since been circulated widely on social media, was originally shared by several students privately on Snapchat, screen recordings of which have since been posted on Twitter and Facebook.

“The incident came on the second day of the school’s Diversity Week,” according to The Salt Lake Tribune. “It occurred shortly before an event where the gay-straight alliance clubs for several neighboring schools were set to meet at Ridgeline High, confirmed Cache County School District spokesperson Tim Smith.”

“It was put up specifically for that event,” Smith noted. “And neither the school nor the school district condones the insensitive and disrespectful removal of the flag, which was done without permission.”

Smith said the pride flag was meant to only be there temporarily. It was placed in a line of flags from several countries — also part of Diversity Week — next to the American flag and covering the flag from Cuba.

The video shows a student using a knife to cut the pride flag down. One student screams at him, “Hurry the f— up.” A girl standing below can be heard laughing.

After about 10 seconds, there’s loud cheering when the pride flag falls to the ground.

One person wrote anonymously in a comment on one of the videos, identifying himself as a student, saying he was “ashamed” of what happened.

“Just because you don’t support them (LGBTQ individuals) and aren’t a part of that community, doesn’t give you the right to disrespect them,” he said. “We need to all accept everyone for who they are, even if we don’t agree.”

“This felt like a direct message that our student body does not support or respect us,” one student told Susie Augenstein, a former teacher at the school. Augenstein confirmed to the Salt Lake Tribune that a queer student had sent her the video, along with the comment.

In an additional statement released to the press, Smith said, “Neither the school nor the school district condones the insensitive and disrespectful removal of the flag, which was done without permission. In fact, this took place during Ridgeline’s Diversity Week, which is held with the intention to create awareness and celebrate the diversity of students, as well as increase inclusion among the Ridgeline student body.”

“This type of incident reminds us of the importance of continually educating students, not just during a Diversity Week, on the importance of respecting one another and the right to attend school, participate in events, and learn in a safe and respectful school environment,” he further noted.

Madison Cawthorn Denies Visiting “Hitler’s House” Because He Says It Was Hitler’s “Retreat”

Washington D.C. student Noah Mitchell ambushed Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) at the Capitol this week, asking if they enjoyed their most controversial vacations.

Mitchell, a political science student living in D.C., pretended to take a selfie with Cawthorn on Thursday, quickly asking him, “What was it like visiting Hitler’s house?”

“What was that?” Cawthorn asked.

“What was it -Did you go to Hitler’s house?” Mitchell asked again.

“Nope, didn’t go there,” Cawthorn said while patting Mitchell’s shoulder before quickly taking off in his wheelchair.

“Alright, what was that Instagram post then?” Mitchell fired back.

“That I believe was a retreat,” Madison said as he fled the scene.

“The retreat? Okay,” Mitchell responded.

Mitchell later posted Cawthorn’s posts from the Eagle’s Nest, writing, “We have receipts @CawthornforNC. ‘Bucket list,’ really?”

Cawthorn’s own Instagram post referred to the home as “the vacation house of the Führer,” and called his visit to “the Eagles Nest a trip that has been on my bucket list for a while, it did not disappoint.”

Mitchell also pretended to take a selfie with Cruz before asking him, “How was Cancún, Senator? It was good?”

Realizing that this was not just a fan trying to take a friendly picture, Cruz’s smile quickly melted away as he took off.

“Take care,” Cruz shot back as he walked away. “You didn’t enjoy it? No?” Mitchell replied.

Ben Shapiro Mocked For Buying Tiny Piece Of Wood To Save Home Depot From Dem Boycott

Right-wing pundit and former Breitbart editor Ben Shapiro was ridiculed online after posting a video of himself purchasing a single plank of wood at Home Depot to push back against activists calling for a boycott over the company’s apolitical stance on Georgia’s new voting law.

On Tuesday, a coalition of Black faith leaders in the state representing over 1,000 churches, called for a boycott of Home Depot, claiming the Georgia-based company had failed to be a good corporate citizen by not opposing the state’s new voting law.

“We don’t believe this is simply a political matter,” Bishop Jackson, who led the call, said in an interview. “This is a matter that deals with securing the future of this democracy, and the greatest right in this democracy is the right to vote.”

Home Depot, Mr. Jackson said, “demonstrated an indifference, a lack of response to the call, not only from clergy, but a call from other groups to speak out in opposition to this legislation.”

Other Georgia-based corporations like Coca-Cola and Delta have strongly opposed the state’s new law, while Home Depot opted to largely stay silent on the topic.

In response to calls to boycott Home Depot, Shapiro uploaded a video to Instagram urging his followers to shop at their local Home Depot.

“As you can see, I just went shopping at Home Depot,” Shapiro says in the clip while he holds a plank of wood and a receipt outside a Home Depot location. “You should do the same. This wood, this board, this magnificent piece of poplar is now mine.”

Shapiro’s video has mainly earned him a wave of mockery online, with some congratulating him for spending $4 dollars to save the corporation.

“How is this not satire?” one commenter asked.

The Fallon Fox Story: Movie about the MMA trailblazer is in development

Coming Attraction: The life and rise of MMA fighter and pioneering trans athlete Fallon Fox is under development as a motion pictureMark Gordon Pictures, along with the creative team behind the acclaimed documentary “Man Made,” plans to tell the transgender pioneer’s story. The story of trailblazing MMA fighter and Outsports Triumph Award winner Fallon Fox may be coming to a cineplex near you. Mark Gordon Pictures announced that its firm has a biopic project on the pioneering transgender athlete under development.
According to the entertainment industry journal Deadline, Fox will serve as a consultant to the project with Mark Gordon as producer. Gordon’s previous producing credits include the popular TV shows Grey’s Anatomy and Criminal Minds and the box office hit that won five Academy Awards, Saving Private Ryan.
Fox shared the news on her social media.

Hey y’all! I feel honored to be able to tell you all that there is a movie in development by Mark Gordon Pictures chronicling my life! https://t.co/gBONqLsW1B— Fallon Fox (@FallonFox) April 21, 2021

For Fox, this is the next bold step in a sporting life where bold steps have been her calling card. Since coming out publicly in 2013, she’s taken a great deal of criticism and vitriol, but also given a great deal in terms of advocacy and education, in addition to being a fierce competitor in an MMA octagon.
“I’m really happy that this is in development,” Fox told Outsports. She added that this project takes on added importance in a time where more than 30 states are considering or have enacted legislation to ban transgender women and girls from competitive interscholastic and intercollegiate sports.
“This story needs to be told especially right now with what’s going on with all of the anti trans legislation,” Fox said. “I also think that they have an outstanding writing team including trans representation working on this. So, this should be a great film.”
The writing team Fox refers to will be the formidable husband-wife writing team of T Cooper, the director-producer of the critically acclaimed documentary Man Made who also has numerous television writing credits to his name, and journalist-author Allison Glock-Cooper.

So stoked to be writing this with @RealTCooper. LFG! @FallonFox ️‍⚧️ https://t.co/4Abd4Jt6dJ— Allison Glock (@AllisonGlock) April 21, 2021

“As transgender/LGBTQIA writers and creators, we know in our bones the inherent value in and necessity of telling stories from the inside out, rather than from the outside looking in,” said the couple in a joint statement to Deadline. “We’re thrilled to be teaming with Mark Gordon Pictures to help bring Fallon’s undeniably powerful and relevant story to the screen.”
Another member of the producing team, Bonnie-Chance Roberts, concurred. “Fallon Fox is a remarkable woman and athlete who has withstood and achieved so much in her life and whose story is far too little known,” Roberts told Deadline. “She is a universal, living icon of strength and persistence.”
